I used to agree with you, Ken. I would have done anything to get SEPTA to keep
a Bullet car and maybe an 80 car for fantrips. I've gotten beyond that once I
realized just how bad 40 and 50-year old equipment was structurally. Regarding
2054 at Elmwood Depot ... I saw it sitting in the back of the yard about three
years ago ... fading paint ... I would suspect that the roof canvas was probably
shot. And now I wonder if there is anyone still on the payroll who could fix
one. Remember most people don't work more than 35 years and many don't exceed
10 years in a single job. The PCCs have not been running in Philly for more
than 20 years ... makes a good case that they might not even have someone who
would know how to fix it. I rode the 8000 Peter Witt some years ago and
realized that they didn't have any instructors who could teach an operator how
to run it.
