[PRCo] Trolley Tunnel is 100

It was 100 years ago tomorrow, Dec. 4, 2004 that the first passenger was
carried through the Mount Washington Streetcar Tunnel.  It is the
longest streetcar tunnel in continuous use in the USA and the second
longest tunnel (Scranton's is longer).  

 

Without this tunnel South Hills would not look like it does today,
Beechview, Brookline, Dormont were all without access.  Without the
Tunnel the Overbrook line would still be a narrow gauge railroad
terminating at the back incline.  Without the tunnel there would never
have been Trolley Heaven at the south portal.
