The connection to the list is nebulous ... Fred Rogers had a toy trolley
in the studio in Pittsburgh. And I'm tired of having four out of five
e-mails be spam. Maybe I can stir the pot a little.

I was reminded of all you guys on the list in the wee hours of Saturday
morning. Remember when Fred Rogers passed away and it caused an
avalanche of e-mails on Derrick's list?

I woke up at 1:30 this morning, and because of post surgical pain, I
knew I wasn't going to get back to sleep. I started scanning the
television channels. On the Pennsylvania Cable Channel (sort of a quasi
public access / legislative channel) I was treated to an interview of
David Newell, on staff at QED Communications, Pittsburgh. Newell played
the role of Mr. McFeeley of the Speedy Delivery firm on the Fred Rogers
show. I was treated to thirty minutes on the life of Rogers, who died
at 2:30 PM of cancer.

Strangely, I received a phone call at 2:30 this afternoon from a woman
who conducted numerous tours to Switzerland, and who only hours earlier
was here in the house to deliver a get well card to me. Her call this
afternoon was to tell me her husband, who was slowly fading from cancer,
had just passed away.

Ironic? Both were remarkable people who loved other people. Both had
theological degrees. Both died at the same time.

Time to go back upstairs and watch the news on Deutsche Welle ... its
now 2:30 again.
