Harold,

I am in the Czech Republic. It was Czechoslovakia with 15 million people for
many years, but Slovaks (they are 5 millions) said adieu to us in 1993. Nice
country, Slovakia, now it is abroad.

Is (was?) the Slovak community in Pgh large? And others - Polish, Czech?

We Czechs understand quite good Slovak, the difference is not so big, but we
cannot speak perfectly. I live in the Northeastern part of the country, in
Ostrava (former Steel and Coal City), very closely to Poland border. We can
watch Polish TV and we understand. But it is more difficult to speak Polish
than Slovak, it would require a little learning and also some exercise.
