Greetings
Any thing is possible sometimes
In San Francisco at Muni when I was GM:
An ex Melbourne double end historic car was operated in the Muni
Metro Market Street subway in 1984 to the Embarcadero station
and return using troilley poles.
The occasion...Muni Metro does not operate until about 9AM on Sunday..
buses on the street. We were having an emergency drill with fire and
police at the Van Ness Station taking advantage of the drill
The inbound subway track was not involved in the drill. A group of
interested employees not involved in the drill made the trip.
At each break in the wire for pantagraph operation, a person
reached out the rear window and switched the pole to the new wire.
I have photos....not computer simulations. it really happened.
PS: The Melbourne car has proven to be one of the most adaptable
tram cars ever built. Memphis is puting some into rebuild for their new hospital
trolley extension.

Would be probably problem to operate the car (4001) with pole under the new
pantograph-type overhead. Insulators, wire tension points etc. But as you
can see in the attached picture, all is possible with some amount of
fantasy....
But the 4001 seems to be restored only cosmetically with pantograph removal
and I guess that some her electric components are burned down. Haven't seen
the car in three dimensions - as well as any PCC - yet.
Of course, I share your wish to see any PRCo PCC being operated in
Pittsburgh!
