I just recalled a couple of other meat packing plants (in addition to
Lorrie's and Victory) located along trolley lines on the Northside in the
1950's: Oswald & Hess and Fried & Reineman. O&H was a retail brand, and
lasted into the 1960's.

A couple of recollections about Spring Hill neighbors who worked at these
plants - "slaughter houses" - in the 1950's:

- George Zech worked at one of the plants (his wife worked in the baked
beans canning dept. at H.J. Heinz Co.) and he told neighborhood kids that
his job was to "pet" the cattle as they were herded into the plant. Yeah.

- Frank Hafner worked at Oswald & Hess for years, and he seemed to be a very
old person in the 1950's.. Recently, I learned that he died in 1963 at age
50.
