For those of you who are not in the loop and wish to be ...
I will be picking up Boris Cefer at Philadelphia International Airport
this Wednesday about 15:00. I will have him in the Pittsburgh area by
supper time on the Thursday July 8. I'm not exactly sure how long we
will be there. Boris provided seven or eight permutations of a
schedule, and I'm convinced what really will happen is a slow evolution
that will see him in Pittsburgh, then perhaps Boston, and Philadelphia
over a three week period. At least on the 8th and 9th you can get
messages to Boris by addressing them to Ed Lybarger
(trams at adelphia.net). On the 10th and 11th you can probably reach us
at Motel 5-15/16ths in Washington, PA (724-223-8040). The entire
schedule in Pittsburgh is uncertain ... there will be time at the
museum, time roaming around the city, and time on the light rail lines.
I'm sure that Boris would be happy to meet any of Derrick's Raiders who
want to come into the Pittsburgh area. I will make one last e-mail scan
before leaving home on the morning of the 8th ... probably late
morning.

Those of you who wish to meet him should be aware that I am scheduled to
operate at PTM on Saturday the 10th. Boris, therefore, has no real
means of escape, and he should be at the museum too this coming
Saturday.

I am also scheduled as dispatcher for a charter at the Baltimore
Streetcar Museum on Wednesday morning the 14th (Ben Bates: but I've had
no reconfirmation) and as second substation key holder and operator at
BSM on Saturday July 17th. Boris has expressed interest in the 14th (if
it actually happens) but, as things are evolving at this end, he may be
forced instead into looking at the underside of a Baltimore PCC on the
17th and maybe going directly from there to Boston. Don't know yet. We
do know that the man who was supposed to go to Boston with him has blown
the transmission in his car so Boris may find he is going to Boston with
me two days later than he planned. (Bernie: the 10th would be a good
day to spot 1711 over the pit with the inspection covers removed ... if
you can find time to do it without compromising anything else.)
(Sidebar to Ed Amrhein ... Boris is a mechanical engineer for the street
railway in Ostrava, Czech Republic ... he has a very strong interest in
PCC cars ... if we are still under 7407 on the 17th, you may find
yourself with another mechanic.)

If nothing else, we will be teaching him that not all plans go the way
we planned and therefore we must plan to change our plans if we plan to
remain sane in the planning department.
