While we try never to rule things out, this is not likely in the forseeable
future. First, the photo collection needs an immense amount of work
(cataloging, surplusing, logical filing, etc.) before anything like that
could occur. Second, there are numerous other issues taking precedence at
the moment, and since I can usually find what pictures are needed at any
given moment, I would rather the effort go to the other things. Third, I'm
not in a position with the luxury of time to supervise anyone else who would
attempt it.

For those who may not be aware, PTM is in the midst of a formal design
process to determine the content of the final, "permanent" exhibit in the
as-yet-unbuilt-and-unfunded visitors' center. Before the funding can occur,
we must have the plans for the exhibits in place, and that's the absolute
first priority this year. Then comes the design and planning for the
library facilities in that building. That process will also begin anew this
year, so my cup is full!

A lot of good things will happen at PTM once the physical plant is complete!

Any idea if PTM will ever undertake a project like this; where they will
scan and post all or some of their picture archives/collection for us to
view via the web? Would PTM let the Pitt Digital Library post the museum
collection? Just wondering.
