[PRCo] Castle Shannon Incline

I found a couple of clippings from the Pittsburgh Press:
June 17, 1964 - The Port Authority announces that the Castle Shannon Incline was being closed for repairs that day.  The article notes that PRC had been trying to close the incline for years without success, and it states that PAT's closure may be permanent. PAT denies it.

June 20, 1964 - PAT announces that the incline needs extensive repairs, and that it will not re-open.  PAT says, "The shutdown is for good."


I rode the 17th St. Incline only once.  Actually, twice - it was a roundtrip.  This was in the mid-1940's, and I mostly remember the large cars and the operator's control stand which included a farebox and transfer holder like those on trolleys.
