Good Morning!

It was 43 years ago when Pittsburgh Railways was
looking for a new paint scheme.     Three PCC carss:::

	1551,	1684, and 1689

have red paint below the windows only, including the
front end, and all cream above the windows.

PCC's 1489, 1653, 1667, 1764, and 1797 all have V-fronts only.
The basic colors still remained red and cream.

	1138 TO ARDEN

PCC 1138 has been purchased by the PRMA, financed
in this instance by one Richard L. Bowker since the car
had been one of his favorites.     It has been stored in
excellent condition at the Ingram carhouse since the
West End routes were converted to bus operation on
Sunday, June 21, 1959, and has now been trucked to Arden
on Wednesday, April 5, 1961.     The other 29 PCC's at
Ingram have been sold to a scrap dealer who cut the cars
in 2 and trucked them away to his scrapyard.

	WEST END TRACK

On Friday, March 3, 1961, Crafton, Carnegie,
Ingram, McKees Rocks, and Stowe Township all opposed
the PUC order to permit the bus conversion to be
permanent on the West End.     This was because there was
no evidence that the substitution of buses for streetcars
was in the public interest and because the PUC order
failed to provide for removal of tracks from state and
county highways and city streets of Pittsburgh.     However,
they dropped their battle on Saturday, March 25, as the
State Highways Department promised the work would be
completed, including curb-to-curb paving,
by Tuesday, January 1, 1963.

A plan was announced by the Allegheny County
Port Authority for installing an aerial tramway from
downtown to Mt. Washington.     They were now seriously
considering this idea.

      Very Sincerely,
