A few weeks ago we had runaway at shops in Ostrava. A small
lockwasher forgotten between two bolts on cable terminal board
caused a short circuit in low-voltage circuits and the car went
through shop gate with full power and track brakes on rails. Even
the long strong 7-ton (metric tons) track brakes were not able to
stop the car! Fortunately nobody was injured and the damage was
only minimal.
So, I think the track brakes alone are not able to stop the car
on 6 % downgrade, especially at higher speed when they get
overheated rapidly and the friction coefficient is almost zero.
The friction is always lower at higher speeds.
