And if you think it is busy now, you should have seen Berlin in the 
communist era.  I was told that automobile ownership increased 
three-fold in East Germany in the first year after unification.  That 
resulted in a lot of route consolidations.  Before that you stand at a 
car stop in a rural apartment block and see cars pass on a half dozen 
different routes with overall headways of a minute or two.  Today the 
rider transfers instead of having a one-seat ride.
