At the PTM Library, we archive technology. For example...Ollie Miller
cataloged a huge amount of PRCo data on an Apple 2e computer, so we keep one
on hand to read it. I suspect we will want to migrate the data to the Mac
at some point but I am not sure if we can retain the formatting in the
process. I also suppose we should be making a second printout of
everything!
And the best images are still copied on film as well as scanned...you can
always scan the negative if you lose the first file. We will be putting a
darkroom in the new visitors center, as well. I don't mind sharing
technologies.

Speak for yourself.
My previous employer kept old equipment around and maintained for years
beyond its service life for this reason.
