If you and Ed wrote a book on the politics of the street railway (or for 
that matter mass transit) industry, say, from about 1934 to the end 
widespread private ownership, that would be both an eye opener and a real 
hoot!

In some private e-mails we exchanged with other members of the list 
concerning bridge collapses, dam failures, etc., there seems to be a 
continuing theme of politics intertwined with both engineering development 
and profit seeking.

It is fun to ride the cars, photograph them, trace old interurban roadbeds, 
etc. But for some of us, the "whys" can be as fascinating as the "hows" and 
"whens."
