According to that, S. 1st Street was just west of the Panhandle
bridge, passing under the western leg of the wye.
The highest numbered street was S. 34th. Going east from there, one
had the J&L plantbetween the river and Carson St and damn-all space
for cross streets. By the time you get past the J&L plant, you're
also out of the city.
There appears to have been at least one block of each of the streets
1st through 34th in the South Side, all named South whatever Street.
