Yes. But they attach ridiculous strings sometimes...like you have to hire a
professional to watch your people insert photos into protective sleeves.
They're running a full-employment ship and don't understand practicality or
economy.

Yes. We had the entire book collection inventoried by a Cal U student
interning. You have to get a good one like Joe, though, or it can be a
bomb. One of our intents is Web access, a bit at a time.

No. There are good curatorial practices to which we try to adhere, within
the limits of our facility and budget.

Maybe. Depends on the strings.

One of the biggest problems with any intern program or grant for a specific
project is that all the work has to be laid out, and supervisory time
allotted, so that the job can be done. None of these people know anything
about the railway subject matter and therefore cannot make ANY judgments or
interpretations on the spot. So you cannot rely on anyone but regular
volunteers for most of the work...they simply have to know what they are
looking at.

We're going to see some dramatic staff changes over the next five years, as
some of the "right" people retire. Watch this page, as they used to say!

Regarding PTM archives, can the Pa. Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC)
provide any funding to the PTM for Archive preservation and public
presentation via online sites?

Also, could the PTM offer some type of Internship program where students
would receive credit for organizing the archives and establishing web
access?

Are the PTM archives regulated by any state regulations or agency? Just
curious.

At the PHMC site I found the following link: Could this be a possible
funding source?
