I copied the following information when I was filing drawings in the
library at PTM. Thought someone out there might have an interest. The
tabulation shows which cars in the Pittsburgh fleet used the M-25 arch
bar truck and what those cars weighed. There are discrepancies and I'm
not making any attempt to explain them.
3750s 45,000 lbs.
4200s 40,000 lbs.
4250s 40,000 lbs.
4300s 40,000 lbs.
4350s 41,000 lbs.
4400s 40,000 lbs. (I take this to be the ex BVT cars)
4700s 38,000 lbs.
3800s 39,000 lbs.
3900s 39,000 lbs.
5000s 43,200, 41,200 or 40,000 lbs.
5100s 40,500 lbs.
5200s 40,500 or 40,000 lbs.
5400s 40,000 lbs.
5500s 40,000 lbs.
B300s 28,000 lbs.
I'm hesitant to believe any MU car could be only 500 lbs. heavier than a
5400 or 5500. I also have trouble believing the 3750s are so different
in weight from the 5000s but maybe so ... cross seats have to weigh more
than a cushion on a wooden longitudinal frame and they did have dry
hoppers when new.
Furthermore, these weights are only approximations. If you actually
scale 100 cars in one series, probably no two of them will have the same
weight. Simply repainting a car can increase its weight by the weight
of the pigment ... a not insignificant amount.
At any rate, anyone who wants can print and file.
