I remember the salt bin at the Spring Hill trolley loop in the mid-1950's.
Also the can screwed to the platform below the motorman's seat; the can held
a paper cup containing rock salt (from the bin in the loop) that the motoman
could use to spread salt on the steps if they became icy. No wonder the
stepwells rusted.
