No errors on this route card relating to the operation of Brookline via
South Bank! If the real estate people paid for the line, it was no skin off
the Railways' nose if they shut it down. And it wasn't a huge investment,
either...a short line through the woods. The land is still empty.

What Else Is There To Do?
.
Sorry, Ed, couldn't resist!
.
.
Musing on this Very Short Term Operation of a Rather Substantial
Investment in light of comments about rate structures being based on
infrastructure capitalization, it seems to be Extremely Short Sighted,
even for those early days, to curtail service after such an Extremely
Short Trial Period. It would seem that ridership to new real
estate would be extremely low going into and during winter --
certainly a longer period of time than 7-Weeks__One-Day would be
necessary to determine any potential ridership figures.
.
The Only Real Saving grace is::::::: """Real estate interests in
Brookline not only arranged for this line's construction but contributed
heavily toward electrification of the main line""" (ER 1952
pg.11.) If real estate interests put up the actual money then
there is another angle to the story.
.
Ed -- any chance the writing / typing on the route cards can be
misread? Or that they were pure typos. Will be interesting
if you discover any further information on the 39-Line Balloon line
when In Full Collect Mode!!!!!!!
