Good Morning!
I had promised some photos of PRCo hardware that I have and have
assembled a little walk through of that as well as some model photos and
some prototype photos. So lettuce begin:::::::
01 - Controls. This is a crude set of PCC controls built about
1968. I designed and built a transistorized throttle which allows
for separate functions for braking and acceleration. Construction
used threaded water pipes for Deadman on left and Power Pedal on right -
threads allowed movement of the pedals. Brake pedal was simple
water pipe which slipped inside a larger fitting.
Deadman simply broke the circuit and was an immediate shutoff if needed.
Transistorized throttles use a capacitor to continually feed power to
the Overhead when the power pedal was released; a simple cable from the
power pedal to the acceleration pot was employed. A trim pot
allowed for the adjustment of coasting. Brake pedal worked
similarly as acceleration -- simple cable between pedal and brake pot
which then bled power from the capacitor which in turn lowered voltage
in overhead. Rate of braking and acceleration was
adjustable. It was tremendously exhilarating to operate in this
fashion -- I literally sat there for many hours on end!
I used an overhead contactor to set all turnouts but Only the one being
approached by a TrolleyCar would set - coasting would set or keep the
turnout in the straight through position - activating a toggle on the
control panel just directed power to the other coil of the switch
machine which would be equivalent to drawing power through the overhead
contactor which would set or hold a turnout in the diverge position!
02 - A photo of Prototype controls.
PCC Motorman Seat -- sitting on it right now -- has been my desk
chair for about a quarter century!
Motorman Gang Switches on the seat -- several of those here from SF PCCs.
A set of Real PCC Foot Pedals from an All-Electric PCC!!!
Accompanying Reverser.
Earll *-Retriever-*
PRCo Transfer Stand which holds 3-books of transfers with holder for
extra books or for transfers collected.
Illinois License Plate for PC 1776 (had a Vanagon Camper here in CA
with PCC TRLY for a license plate!!)
PRCo Electric Fare Register from either 1100 or 1200 series PCCs.
03 - PRCo Manual Fare Register. Have mentioned this in previous
posts. This was in worse shape than the electric register in the
previous photo. Both registers were disassembled and the shells
were stripped, cleaned, then primed and painted. Each coat of
primer and paint was baked in the oven at the lowest temperature setting
and 20+ years later these items look like new. PCC Op Seat
repainted (but Not Baked In Oven!) as well as voltmeter and sundry
other hardware.
04 - This is an PRCo Jones Low-Floor Shell in 1"=1' or 1.12 scale!
My dream has always been to also have an PRCo PCC Interurban in 1.12 and
then operate these models through the foot pedals shown above.
With Radio DCC that is a very real possibility!
