I was able to get out today and do my regular "streetcar run." I start
at the Cemeteries at the end of Canal Street, go down Canal to St.
Charles, then up St. Charles to Riverbend, turn and go Up Carrollton
Avenue back to Canal Street. The Canal line is OK in terms of the
catenary, trees, etc. The track's full of dirt and debris, but nothing
that can't be cleaned. St. Charles is the opposite, with lots of
overhead damage from falling trees branches.
The streetcars are two stories as well. The 2000-series and 400-series
"Red Ladies" at the Randolph SIS facility on Canal Street got between 2'
and 4' of water in them. As a result, they're a mess in terms of the
Brookville trucks and the overall electrical systems. The historic
900-series Perley Thomas streetcars were high and dry, secure at
Carrollton Station (along with 453, 29, and the cable car).
I've got lots of pics up on the website, http://www.canalstreetcar.com.
I've switched the website to Movable Type, so those of you that use news
reader programs to read blogs should be able to add CanalStreetCar.com
to your reading.
Cheers,
Ed.
