Good Morning!

Photo in Volkmer's All-Color Pgh. Region book shows the terminal at
Uniontown, pg.31. What is interesting are the clearance lines --
they are built into the paving and thus avoid the need to be
repainted! This particular clearance line is for the overhang of
the center between the trucks and of course, it has to be made for the
largest car, the 700s. There is a *-bulge-* (to allow for end
overhang) in this line as a track connects from the other direction
-- and is the only track in service when this photo was taken in 1952!!

The effectiveness of these overhang markings are really evident in the
photo on pg.37 showing 739 on the double track curve at the Uniontown
station loop.

Speaking of overhang -- look at the photo of 719 on pg.32 as she turns
from Stewart onto Fayette in Uniontown!!

Many of the WP steel trestles look quite fragile with a single bent
supporting the span about every 30-feet. Light, modest, yet
effective and efficient construction! Pgs.23; 26; 27 (pg.118
in LeRoy O.King PA Trolleys In Color.)
