I'll but the disclaimer in first before someone reminds me.

I'm about to recommend one person for his superior work, therefore I
owe it to all of you to tell you that I know that person
personally. As in all friendships, there can be an accusation of bias.

If you are out to get every single inch of film that was ever exposed
on Pittsburgh, then by all means buy every inch of tape. On the
other hand, if you are looking for the best editing of the best
material, I would suggest you look for what Carl Schultz has put out
under the business name of Transit Gloria Mundi. Unlike many the
fellows who do it as a hobby, Carl was trained in one of the
Hollywood motion picture schools to do it right. His credentials
included one of the public broadcasting stations in California and a
stint with Maryland Public Television before going off on his own.
I was amazed with some of the things he taught me just in routine
conversation ... if the moving object ended one scene HERE, then the
action should begin at the same place on the screen when you start
again. After he mentioned that rule, I watched some of his own
tapes and found he tries to follow the rule.

I just checked his web site <http://www.transitgloriamundi.com> and
it lists three Pittsburgh tapes... west, north and south. I saw
Carl about a month ago and asked him then when he was going to begin
on the east end tape ... the answer I got was after 1) Washington is
done and 2) all the other tapes are remastered on DVD. A year ago
he claimed the railfans were so far behind the curve that we was not
worried about DVD; now he claims he can't even sell VHS tapes.

At any rate ... he has taken the time to put the good stuff
together. You won't find such blunders as a PCC with a semi-
convertible sound track or a car coming to a stop with a sound track
accelerating on a TGM release.
