These side crashes  *-sometimes-*  have to do with psychology.       Many 
lrvs systems have center of the highway prw, Not At All Unlike dividers on 
big highways like expressways and freeways.       So a motorist in his left 
hand lane believes that nothing operates to his right.       The fact that 
there is only one  *-lrv train-*  every 10 minutes or so adds to this 
problem of psychology - rare that when a driver is in the left lane that he 
sees  *-traffic-*  driving to his left  --  so these people make left turns 
into the path of an lrv or into the side of same.       Not a few such 
accidents when Santa Clara began operations.

You and I are aware of such possibilities for accidents because we are fans 
of rail - others don't have this embedded in memory.
