The variations to the B2 truck were quite interesting and one of them
made it underneath an Interurban -- B2A under 1644. The torque arms
were reportedly omitted because rubber springs used at the journals over
the axles were soft vertically but quite stiff longitudinally which kept
the axles parallel. Swing Link Bolster was eliminated in favor of
a Rubber Spring Supported Bolster -- Not Unlike B3 in this regard
inside the B2 frame and springing. This gave great leverage to the
car body as compared to the B3 and the ride on the B2B (torque arms
present but rubber spring mounted bolster retained) was Truly Like
Floating On A Cloud. Believe there may be a shot of 1644 passing
over a trestle on the Washington line while outfitted with the B2A
trucks in the TGM South Hills video. Wish I could have experienced
a truly functional B2B on the Interurban lines!
