Good Morning!
Looking at the foldout chart in the back of PCC Car Fought Back and
PRCo's first PCC (100 aka M11) weighed in at 34,300# -- cost not
listed. (Weight for a class of car would be typical ----
individual cars may vary!)
The tens added 275# and cost $15,715.00
11s added 595# to that of 100 and cost $16,000.00
12s were 1,480# heavier than 100 and cost $15,900.00
14s added 1,780# to 100 to cost $17,034.00
15s were lighter than the 14s, adding only 1,580# to 100 while costing
$19,000
1600 Herself added 3,465# to 100 and cost $20,000.00
1601s were 1,964# heavier than 100 and cost $20,000.00
1700--1724 Interurbans were 2,602# heavier than 100 at a cost of
$28,350.00 each
1724--1799 City Cars were 3,123# heavier than 100 - cost $28,350.00 each.
PCC #100 is listed as received by PRCo on 19360726 with an In Service
Date of 19370128. We know that the car was actually used prior to
that in Demonstration service but this Service Date <may> be after
all Official Ceremonies surrounding the car were completed --
testing, Demo Rides, Show-Off to communities, etc.
The tens typically show 2 or 3 days between delivery and service
---- this is Utterly Fascinating since PCC technology was Brand
New then while in SF today, new rail equipment goes through a 30-day
shake down At Least before entering service! PCC 1007 was received
on 19370204 and put into service the next day, the 5th of Feb.
Car 1016 was delivered AND in service The Same Day --
19370213!!! Other cars In Service on the same day (but not this
aforementioned Date::) 1020, 1021, 1031, 1032, 1033, 1034
1037, 1045, 1046, 1050, 1051, 1052, 1057, 1069, 1070.
It took ca 2 weeks to get GE cars 1075-1082 in service -- <may> have
been some special testing of this different equipment first. 1083
was In Service 5 days after delivery and this time decreased progressively.
Deliveries of 10s were typically one or two cars a day, sometimes 3.
Five months between delivery of 1099 and 1100
PCC 1100 herself took 2 weeks between delivery and service but by the
time 1110 was received they were down to 1 to 3 days time
PCC 1128 was In service Same day as delivery -- 19381111!
PCC 1138 dates were 19371119 and 19371123 with a 19610329 sale date to
PRMA and 19610405 Move date!
PCCs 1168 and 1169 were delivered Christmas Day, 1937 ----
South Hills Cars!!!
PCCs 1179 and 1180 were New Year Babies, 1938!!
12s saw a little more time between delivery and service, as much as 5
days and a little more although several 1 day turnarounds are
evident. Interesting that there is almost a 2 month gap between
delivery of last WH 12, 1274 on 19400520 and delivery of first GE
1276 on 19400708 (1275 delivered 19400711.)
Five Car deliveries a day of 14s Not Uncommon, even 6 cars in one day,
1451--1456 as well as 1459--1464.
15s delivered from early November 1944 through March-01 of 1945 but
nothing delivered On Christmas Nor New Year.
The 16s were delivered from August 1945 through January 1946.
PCC 1674 was last WH car in this group and was delivered to PRCo on
19460128 while 1673 was delivered 19451020 ---- original 1674
diverted to Detroit as was first PRCo 16 GE 1675. The 1675
delivered to PRCo was Just Ahead Of 1673 on 19451018 but to make up the
extra GE car 1699 arrived 5 weeks after 1698!
For the 17s there was typically a 2 to 5 day gap between delivery and
service with the first GE car -- 1775 -- showing a 9 day gap.
While there are a couple 1 or 2 day gaps, a week to 10 days is not
uncommon between delivery and service for the GE 17s with almost 2
months between same for 1798 and 1799!!
1747--1756 -- 10 cars -- delivered 19490328 ---- glad that
train didn't wreck!!!!!!!
