Eggzactly My Point ---- Thank__You for helping me out!!!
.
.
On L-Taraval THE ONLY flat spots were for one block on 15th
between Ulloa and Taraval and along 46th for 3-blocks to the Zoo!!!
On J-Church ONLY flat spot on Church between Market and 17th --
3-blocks total.
On K-Ingleside ONLY flat spot is on Ocean down by the Hobby shop.
On M-Ocean View Only flat Spot(s) is one block near Broad/Plymouth and
two blocks outbound of prw on 19th.
On N-Judah ONLY flat spot(s) are along Judah for one or two blocks in
just a couple locations -- this line apparently has the most flat
spots. Remember that the blocks along Judah are Short -- 3-lrvs
long or 213-feets.
.
TrolleyCars in SF are Consistently On Grades!!!!!!!
.
.
FAR More Grades to SF TrolleyCar system than Pgh could even
imagine!!!!!!! The Overbrook Interurban, being a former narrow
gauge RR, is almost entirely flat from Warrington to Castle
Shannon. The Bias here is to climb to Castle Shannon but ever so
gradually that it is not detectable; approach outbound to Elwyn
(McNeilly) viaduct is the steepest grade of all of Overbrook -- also
Library from Kings School outbound to Rt.88! Flat spots on
42-Dormont (good portion of Broadway in Beechview, Smithfield downtown,
part of Grant; 1,000 foot Palm Garden Trestle) probably equal ALL
level running on 5 TrolleyCar lines in San Francisco! The
42-Dormont is approx. the length of the J-Church, the shortest line in SF!
.
Have Often Thought about this in relationship to Pgh -- Liberty and
Penn on 87 and 88 -- not a few miles of good flat operation
here. Fifth and Forbes in Oakland has not a little flat
operation. East Liberty. Second Avenue -- East
Carson. Near North Side. East Ohio. 13-Emsworth and
15-Bellevue.
.
Either Muni or MSR borrowed trucks from an PRCo low-floor -- didn't
work here -- stops Way Too Frequent and Grades Way Too Steep -- have
photo of car clearly showing trucks but can't locate it
immediately. Yet same trucks Wildly Successful in Pgh!!
.
I see some of the points you are making, Bill, but still feel entirely
Too Much Fuss made over new equipment that private companies like PRCo
would never make. Cynical side showing here but I know others feel
the same.
.
SF did testing on the new ETI TC for THREE___YEARS with One coach
and between 1.5 to 2 years for a second coach NOT IN
SERVICE. There is STILL a program for testing some 8-years after
initial tests began ---- what is happening I do not know!
