EHL and I just spent 20 minutes with the phones on our ears and our  
fingers on the keys trying to find something in Google on the federal  
transportation excise tax act of 1942.   This appears to have been  
totally forgotten amid the monumental income tax "improvement" made  
that year.   The excise tax ran from 1942 until 1962 but that was all  
we could learn.   Anyone else know anything, tell us.
