We do discuss all sorts of strange events on this list, don't we.   I  
remember that event because I was a geology major in college.   The  
only reason no one was hurt in the New Madrid, Missouri quake was  
simple ... that part of the country was unpopulated then.   Or more  
simply, we, meaning the White Northern Europeans who wrote the  
history books,  didn't consider Native Americans to be people.
