I have no idea how long the seat material actually lasted in service. And
note my wording in the initial post..."which has been represented to us as
coming from 'the demonstrator' car." We were not told that this was the
material on the car when it was new. Apparently PRCo used several patterns,
and it is possible that when the car was painted "buff and tan" on May 5,
1939...an entirely new look...the seats were reupholstered as part of the
overhaul.

So the material could well have been used on the demonstrator, though not
delivered with it.

The sample was given to us by a retired PRCo/PAT shop employee. The late
George Tucker had an operator's seat upholstered in the same material...but
just who did it is a mystery. George grew up adjacent to Homewood Shops and
was well-known there as a youth. It is possible (probable?) that someone
gave him a chunk of surplus material and he later acquired a seat and
contracted for the upholstery work. Remember, there weren't a lot of
surplus operator's seats for PCC cars in 1939...or until the mid-'50s, for
that matter. George's estate is beginning to be inventoried now, and it is
possible that PTM could end up with a lot of odd things like this!

The question is: "Where is the herringbone pattern sample actually from?"!!!
