Where I live, it's the same deal. Politicians incite jealousy within the
private sector against the public sector. They conveniently ignore the fact
that the public sector cannot simply turn away "undesirable" patrons the
private sector refuses to help. The public sector is a 24-7 operation,
including traditional holidays. The public sector must be politically
correct, and must accommodate needs to which the private turns its nose up.
As for taxis and commercial vehicles on busways...I oppose it. First off,
with the payments offset the costs of lost patronage? Secondly, who is held
liable if a cab driver, used to bullying and road-raging through city
streets and on the expressways, takes a chance and plows into a loaded bus?
It's the camel sticking it's nose into the tent.
