Dan Joseph also sent this to me, claiming it is the first Newark PCC
to run in San Francisco. It is clad in the most common San Diego
paint scheme. There were some other experimental schemes, always
using the diamonds but
using other colors. The overhaul on these cars was no where nearly
as thorough as on the SEPTA cars; merely cosmetic. But Brookville
did a very nice body and paint job. They did what Muni paid them to
do. Truthfully they need to be rewired.
I find it hard to believe that trolleys are still running on Market
Street. I can only believe that they were supposed to vanish when
the tunnel was built for them and BART under the street. But then
the cable cars were supposed to vanish too back in the 1940s and
early 1950s. Strange city. Must be something in the water out
there, eh Jim?
