I don't see a huge rush to get this all done by the end of August. Maybe
the end of October is OK to finalize things. PTM will be no problem; we
will get our own car (presumably 1711 if everything is working just right)
and it will fit in between the regular service trips. We should do the TDB
(AKA "Blimp Hangar") tour that leaves at 1:35 p.m. 4398 should be painted
by then, and be very close to completion (all four motors are now back; that
had been a major delay issue). And there are 40-something other things to
look at if you choose.
Field trips likewise are easy (for me, at least) and the only real question
is what size vehicle we use. Those who want to ride Port Authority can
easily do so. If you want slide shows, that's easy as well. As to
eating...Washington has one quality restaurant -- Angelo's. For anything
more, we'll have to go to Pittsburgh. But maybe you want to experience
lunch at Beechies, just like the PTM crowd does...or dinner with them there,
if you like.
How about:
Friday: Washington and Charleroi
Saturday: West Penn (I suggest the lines west of Uniontown for starters and
see how far we get; it takes three days to do it right)
Sunday: PTM (and/or Port Authority for those inclined
Monday: Port Authority ??

I am coming. I believe Jerry is also coming. He would prefer flying but I
prefer driving. Airline flights are already pretty outrageous from here in
Jax. I wouldn't mind doing Amslack, but it takes awhile and I'd have to get
an extra day off(I may have to do that anyway if driving). Jerry has
informed me that he is not getting any messages from this list. He is trying
to subscribe agian to Derrick, so I really don't want to answer for him.
You NEVER have to talk me into Max's. I've been there twice now and I've
loved it both times. It's also pretty close to rt 21 Fineview if anyone
cares to take a nostalgic ride on the old trolley route. I have seen many
photos, but when Fred took us up there, I was amazed.
My preferences are to spend half a day on the Washington interurban and
the other half on Charleroi. Another day doing West Penn. And maybe the
third day just getting together at the museum to chat and ride the
streetcars. Some may wish to deviate and ride the T. I myself am dying to
see the changes at PTM.

WHO IS COMING?
We have still gotten no firm list of who is coming to the said
convention and what we would like to do...
Are you coming? Have you bought a ticket or were you just thinking
maybe I'll come or maybe it's a nice idea? Guy's it's coming up on
September and you wanted to do this in November.
I'm also cc: Scott Becker and I'll explain in a separate e-mail to him.
WHAT TO DO
I take it we would like to do a lot of socializing. Some would like
to look at the Pittsburgh and West Penn interurbans or even
Steubenville (I don't think Ed wants to do that again) or Wheeling or
Mon - West Penn (that would be good with leaves off the trees).
How about coming back and telling us what you expect if you are
coming. It's your trip.
THE DATES
If I recall correctly we were talking the weekend before Thanksgiving:
Friday November 16
Saturday November 17
Sunday November 18
POSSIBLE HOTELS
Here is one index to Motels in Washington, PA. It does not list
anything on the east side. Missing are Motel 6 (724-223-8040) and
the Hampton Inn.

PLACES TO EAT
Until we know who is coming and their tastes in food, we also cannot
come up with any ideas where to eat. Cuisine around Washington, PA,
proper is very unimaginative. About as far out as you get is
Chinese created for American tastes and American for rednecks.
If you want unusual cooking, you need to go into Pittsburgh. Some
of the better restaurants are on the South Side, particularly East
Carson Street:

Oakland, because of all the universities, also has a lot of
restaurant diversity:

One of the better German restaurants is on the Nor'side, Max's
Allegheny Tavern. It's never a problem to talk Ed into that one.
He may try to talk you into it.
