I thought list members might enjoy the current views of 4398, which shows
the striping currently underway. For those not familiar with this process,
outlines for the stripes are drawn on the orange paint in the correct
location, and the stripes themselves are then hand-painted...freehand! It's
a real art. The gentleman who is doing it is rusty...he hasn't striped
anything since Red Arrow 14...and it is slow going. The car is more than
half done. Numbering will come next.

For those who may have interest, the third photo is of PTM's Rio open car
1758. Work will soon begin on regauging the trucks and other rebuild work
needed to have the car operable sometime in 2008 (with any luck). The
museum has just received a check from a local foundation to cover the work,
and vendors have been selected to perform it. How does this relate to our
topic? West Penn had cars of this design but with one more seat. Close
enough for gummint work.
