Everyone and anyone can have impressions but no one has the total
picture. Putting this out there and receiving more input gives a
better picture // generally // sometimes // etc. of what is
happening!!! Part of what we are seeing in Pgh or AnyWhere Else is
that everything is a constant state of change // flux -- what was once
desirable can later be undesirable and even later desirable
again!!! When trains first came on the scene it was desirable to
be as close to the train station as possible because transportation was
so poor otherwise. But as people became more mobile living next
the the train station was far less desirable because of all the noise,
'cinders', etc.!!
.
Downtown SF is quite busy ---- drive through it 9-round trips each
day but the ONLY time I am ever down there is when I see the dentist
twice a year ---- it has literally been decades since I went
downtown for anything else!!! Did my Christmas shopping on the
streetcar for 2-years in the 1970s when I first moved here, then gave
that up for driving to a mall outside SF, then gave Christmas up
altogether and just sit back watching everyone else Be Merry while
pushing, shoving, punching, to get ahead or going into road rage to get
where they are going. Tis a wonderful season to watch the InHuman
Nature in action!!!!!!!
.
Speaking of That Season, this was my Best Christmas Ever as a
Professional Driver ---- Lightest Traffic Season I have Ever
Seen. If success of Christmas was to be measured by traffic
intensity, then it could be observed that Christmas was a Total
Failure. YES! There was increased traffic in the Christmas
Season, but NOThing like seasons past. Gift Cards, Inet may have
made the difference. Seems like next Christmas will be even
better. Since Gift Cards will generally be good for a couple
months, the crush after Christmas was greatly reduced as well. Day
after Christmas in downtown SF looked like a Ghostown -- Very Spooky!!

Thought you might like this recent photo of Amtrak emerging from the
