Jerry:
I spent too many years watching that industry. I edited
Headlights. I talked to and made friends with John Swindler, Russ
Jackson, Phil Craig, George Krambles, George Arnoux, Bill Janssen,
Leo Ross and many others who worked in the industry from top
management down to conductors, engineman, motormen and janitors.
One of my two closest friends worked for Pullman and Bombardier for
40 years engineering railway rolling stock. I worked for government
myself, but in a different branch having nothing to do with
transportation yet the interaction between politicians and dollars
and people are the same. It isn't hard to become cynical ... as
John said, way toooooo cynical at times. Just excuse it and, as my
charming and beloved mother in law used to say, "consider the source."
And if I confuse you or anyone else, the only dumb question is the
unasked question. Fear not, ask it.
