They interviewed people at the time who said people, including the
deceased, felt unsafe crossing at that particular intersection. Ok, if you
recognize the situation and keep doing it anyway, seeing what conditions
are, I'm not saying you deserve what you get, but... walk to the next
block and cross? Just because you can (legally) do something doesn't mean
you should. There are places I *can* walk, bike, or drive (mostly turn out
of side streets) that I won't because it's too risky, legal or not. This
comes back to personal responsibility.

If said party shares in the blame perhaps they should pay themselves :)
