I hate to see that upper picture of the car jacked up on barrels.    
You see guys, I'm responsible for the Lancaster Birney car that is  
under lease to by the Commonwealth (PHMC) to the Manheim Historical  
Society.  When MHS put it into service, they never thought that they  
might need an inspection pit.   The only way I can replace brake  
shoes or repack the brake cylinder (which I need to do), is to get  
four 5 ton jacks, lift the car, push cribbing under it, and then   
crawl under it and work.   One tends to postpone work as long as  
possible under those circumstances.  Perhaps I should consider myself  
fortunate that it is temporarily out of service because of a burnt  
out resistance grid (which is easy to replace but keeps other things  
from wearing out).  fws3.
