I have never been a huge fan of recommending books, but the current one I am reading is an excellent capsule look at urban mass transit and in particular, street railways. In a little more than 150 pages, author Robert C. Post (PhD in American History from UCLA) provides a concise history of the need for the rise in mass transit and how it has changed our cities. He quickly dismisses any conspiracy theories on behalf of GM and American Cities and gives the reader an overview of technologies, how they changed (or did not), a chronology of urban transit and finishes with deciphering of Judge Doom and the urban myths that have followed the "conspiracy"
