And next we have Tom Phillips during the period when he was operating
at both PTM and the Baltimore Streetcar Museum.
I remember how I first met Tom. He was living in Bowie,
Maryland ... retired ... and he would show up at the Baltimore
Streetcar Museum almost every Sunday. Finally I suggested it would
be cheaper if he would just become a member and he would not have to
pay fares every Sunday. At that time we didn't charge admissions.
We charged $2.00 to ride and 25 cents for two trip slips. So Tom
joined. And two months later he pressed a PTM application blank in
my hand and suggested and retaliation was fair play.
Well, before it was all over, we were both working as fully qualified
operators at both museums. Tom's health has caused him to quit.
And I must admit to spending a lot more time driving to PTM these
days than I do to nearby Baltimore.
The cars in the picture? No. 7407 is a war time PCC which was saved
because it was the last car into the barn after the last fantrip on
November 1963. It has been totally rebuilt. Behind it is a 130
Brill - GE Peter Witt (Witt received royalties but the conductors
were never used except to explain to the passengers how to step down
on the door treadles to open the center doors. Then, in the
Depression, all the conductors were fired.)
At any rate, here is Tom in uniform and minus the hat.
