Please pardon the online reply as this is most expedient at the moment.
You had written some time back about touring the T some time in July and I
doubt I shall be available for that. Much going on here (computer problems
so original email from you tied up on another computer) as well as various
family considerations.
The T in SF is the 88-Frankstown in Pgh - goes through THE worst
neighborhoods (Bayview also near Hunters Point not unlike Homewood or The
Hill) where crime is high and shootings are almost daily. Wouldn't want to
travel through this area with a camera exposed. Toured the line on a quiet
evening earlier this year before it was open and It Is Impressive. (Drove
the ETI test Trolley Coach through here on the 24 on a regular basis but
must honestly admit that I was nervous doing so but didn't experience any
problems.) Have not ridden it and doubt I shall until one of those railfan
types comes to town and twists my arm (have only been on the F about 3
times, if that!) T Not functioning as well as desired - street intersections
have blocks and signalling to prevent 2 trolleycars / lrvs from colliding -
why not the same at West Portal, Duboce/Church, Market/Church etc? Answers
Not Needed!
So Far it seems that the freeway meltdown has not made a major disruption to
the traffic flow and I noticed that another connector was opened up on
Monday. Would have to study a map to understand what is happening there as I
was through that maze only twice this year and that may have been a first
for about a decade - it is very rare for me to cross the Bay Bridge and may
have done so less than a half-dozen times since the 1989 Quaker.
