I'm not going to embarrass you.   I'm going to ask, who back at  
Tunnel was supposed to inspect the trolley wheel for wear before they  
gave you the car in the first place?   Oh, I forget, this was during  
the PAT days.    Not Pittsburgh Railways.   PAT people weren't  
supposed to be bothered with such details as inspecting cars first,  
were they?????

(Herb knows I'm overly cynical about government agencies.)

Oh, and Herb, where you stopped is exactly where I got off one night  
and put a pole back on for a motorman when I was much younger.   I  
was probably about 18 or 19 at the time and he lost it coming off the  
bridge and before Smith.

I remember back in the old days ... you know, back when the earth was  
still cooling?  ... when a Pennsylvania Railroad train stopped at  
Lancaster, the engineman was required to get off and inspect the  
pantograph to make sure it wasn't wearing through and might tear down  
the wire.   At night they did it with a flash light.   They also had  
a wire train that inspected the overhead every 30 days.   That was  
under PRR ownership.   Somewhere between Penn Central and Conrail and  
Amtrak all that monkey business disappeared.   Now they fix the  
11,000 volt catenary when it falls on top of an engine or a MU  
car.    I haven't seen an engineman inspect a pantograph in 40 years.
