Hee-hee-hee.....remote oil filter hose, by chance?
To get back to traction, I knew a gentleman who started out as a P.E.
motorman during the 1940s. He stated that by the time Metropolitan Coach
took over, the air compressor rings in some of the Hollywood cars were so
bad, the lubricating oil was working its way into the air lines. The oil
would seep through the brake stand near the handle. The operators would
either wrap rags around it or wear gloves.
I am guessing those were still two man cars, as handling fares and handling
out transfers would be cumbersome to a motorman who was wearing an oil
coated glove.
