Charlie in Long Beach asked if the nature freaks are still pushing to have
the Hetch Hetchy dam torn down.
Where do they expect The City to get its electricity? We're still years away
from large scale alternatives...solar panels take up space and deface the
countryside and windmills kill birds.
Do they want The City to receive its electricity from petroleum, nuclear and
coal? They'd lose most of the trolley coach routes, as there will be NO
economic justification for retaining the routes that don't transverse steep
grades.
Two sides to the water wars, Jim. Urban dwellers waste it and so do farmers.
The farmers could irrigate with less if they upgraded their irrigation
systems. Some admit they'd rather waste it than give up their political
leverage, as western water flows uphill to both political power and money.
;-)
Urban developers don't care if they overbuild and doom the cities to
perpetual water shortages, nor do they car if the farmers don't have enough
water to grow what's needed to sustain large Southwestern desert cities.
Awful all the way around....
Yes, I see wasteful transit spending all over the nation...giving ammunition
to mass transit foes everywhere.
Everytime a practical light rail line is proposed for Las Vegas, the social
engineers want to link it to dangerous, gang infested neighborhoods and the
rail opponents use that to scare off the people who would be well served.
The thought of a tangible link to dangerous neighborhoods is taboo. Never
mind that hardcore criminals use automobiles for committing crime....
