In an editorial today, the Sacramento Bee newspaper says it's still 
enthusiastic about extending light rail to Sacramento International 
Airport but raises concerns about LRT construction costs. It cites the  
cost escalation of the downtown to Amtrak station LRT extension, 
slightly over half a mile, which rose in cost from $35 million to $46 
million by the time it was completed. The newspaper estimates an 
extension to the airport could cost $1 billion and suggests an 
evaluation of alternatives -- including express buses -- before 
Sacramento commits to the LRT capital project:
