Good Morning, Everyone:
November 11, 1953: An outbound Pennsylvania Railroad Chestnut Hill
train jumped the tracks on the bridge over the Schuylkill River as it
headed toward 30th Street Station. About 50 passengers were hurt and
there was no PRR service from 30th Street to Suburban Station. Here
were the alternate routes for the PRR riders between these 2 important
stations:
1. Subway-surface trolley routes 10-11-34-37-38 to and from the Market
Street entrance at 30th Street
2. Market-Frankford line to 32nd Street Station
3. Broad Street Subway to North Philadelphia Station (Chestnut Hill
and Trenton riders only)
4. Reading Railroad Chestnut Hill, Norristown, and West Trenton branches
Normal service was restored by November 12.
Very Sincerely,
Dennis M. Linsky
