I don't believe there were any conductors after the Yonge and Bay lines were replaced with the Yonge Subway. But if you were riding a large Witt there may have been a conductor's booth on the car. The large Witts disappeared before the small Witts, but some of the large Witts were still around in 1960.

I too got to ride them circa 1960. I think it was a Kingston Rd. tripper on Queen St. For some reason there is an impression that it was a two man car????? Was Toronto still using conductors in 1960???

I would have been about 14 at the time. Mother took the kids with her to Oakville to visit a friend from the war years. Couple times rode CN into Toronto. Remember the first trip walking from Union Station and starting to run for a Dupont car. Was told to stop running - another car would be along shortly. That was my introduction to 3 minute off peak headways, as opposed to 20 minutes in Pittsburgh.

During the following days, the 'game' was to zig-zag across Toronto, trying to maximize the potential use of a transfer.

That was also the summer that my father took me on Greyhound bus to Cleveland to ride Shaker and the rapid. We also rode a trackless line. Wonder if I took a snapshot of the trackless???

I remember it quite well. The cars ran during the peak periods only and both times I rode them I had to stand most of the route. > Fred Schneider <fwschneider at comcast.net> wrote: Nice Toronto pictures from Bill Robb.
