Ditto. My only regret was that a few people closer to PTM couldn't join us. Although I've met Dennis and Ray, I've never met Matt.
I got to operate 1711 so I'm one happy camper!
I went to visit my brother in Greensburg on Sunday. After having breakfast with Fred III and Herb at you know where, I decided to go try and take a few shots of the Tylerdale Substation remains. We could see it from the road(rt. 18?) when we passed on the bus. I took a couple shots from the road but they didn't look good. You could barely see it. So I went down a side street called Wallace, no doubt named for Wallace Farm. There was a small bridge that was chained off so I couldn't get to the other side of the creek. I went into an engineering company(or something along that line)parking lot and drove up next to the fence along the creek. You could clearly see the substation remains from here and as luck would have it, there was an opening in the fence. So I went through the opening and got right up next to the creek and took a few very nice shots of the remains. I was tempted to cross the creek at its narrowest point, but I was wearing good shoes and could not find anything to place across the creek to allow me to pass with dry feet. I would, however, like to do this one day and get some shots from the actual Tylerdale ROW. I did find a rail spike on this side of the creek but came to the conclusion that this was probably a PRR spike and not PRCo. The PRR ran on this side of the creek parallelling the interurban, correct?
I'm very busy right now getting things together but will post these photos when I get the chance.
In hindsight, I completely forgot about Jim's request for a photo of the old Holland stop on the Wash. line. There's not much to see there and we could not stop when we were on the bus. I was on the opposite side or I might have at least tried to take a photo through the window. I should have gone back after the substation shots but didn't think about it and I was running late to my brother's house. Sorry Jim.
Now, after I left my brother's house in Greensburg I was having second thoughts about not exploring Eldora Park and other parts of the Charleroi line. You have to remember that this was my only trip and tour this time of year. The others have all been in the summer when the foliage makes it nearly impossible to see anything. I ended up on West Monessen St right next to what once was the 837 overpass. I proceedeed down to where West Monessen dead ends and got out of my car for a little hike. You could plainly see the grade up the hill from the path I was on. This path was once Eldora Hollow Rd. I walked quite a ways when I saw 2 posts with no trespassing signs. I then decided that it wasn't worth my efort to go any further so I have no pictures of the yellow brick path that lead from the trolley stop up the hill to the park(it is there though). Needless to say at this point I was well behind my scheduled departure time back to Florida. I did, however make one final stop. I managed to get a few clear photos of the north abutment of bridge #1. I started walking towards the house which Robert showed us in a previous photo to ask the owners if I could get right next to said abutment, but there was a dog out on a chain which started going crazy at the sight of me so I changed my mind. I will post these shots also. I could not see the south abutment as there were still leaves on the trees.
So instead of leaving at 10:00AM at the latest, I ended up leaving Charleroi around 12:30PM and I finally made it home at 1:30AM last night(or this morning, depending on how you look at it).
Now I have to drive to Tallahassee to pick up my step daughter and then meet my other brother for dinner at the beach Wednesday so I'll be tied up through Thanksgiving. I had a wonderful time at PTM and wish to also thank everyone involved in making this happen. I hope to do it again sometime. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!!
