there is nothing more American than criticizing injustices in this Union in
which "we the people, in order to CREATE(not having CREATED as yet) a more
perfect union" live. Acccusations of lack of patriotism for protesting the
all -too-human stupidity of those who temporarilly and unworthilly hold high
positions of public authority are totally American, and were welcomed by the
Founding Fathers. Love of country implies wanting for it to be a better,
more just place, as it is capable of being. The throttling of debate and
criticism is not what Jefferson and Madison envisioned.
