Not on the Front End~!~! These are Ken Josephson's Favorite
TrolleyCars -- the front pole is for complex back up maneuvers like
the first URL below with the car backing out of 11th onto Market with
front pole up -- motorman caught the insulator over the TrolleyCoach
overhead and drew a smart arc~!~!
.
There were two stub tracks on 11th that were parallel to each other --
one from either direction on Market -- An X-Over was in place between
them with a spring return point on the inbound lead. On AM and PM
pullouts and pullins the J-Church and N-Judah would wye here -- two
cars could pass the X-Over and would tend to each others pole change,
then back out onto Market together and either proceed to route or
barn. The car in the first photo had pushed a bad car into 11th With
Passengers Aboard and then backed out to continue route -- backup
controllers in back seat. I took this photo in summer // fall of 1963.
